The Real Story of Conotoxin in My Novel
In my latest novel, The Sea Sheller's Daugther, Eve "Shelly" Shelbourne is a marine biologist (those in the know recognize she's a malacologist). Shelly is seeking a treatment for MS paralysis from the venom of marine cone snails.
This great YouTube video talks about the powerful medical uses of conotoxin as a pain medication. This research and real-life treatment is the source of my story thread.
I hope you are as fascinated by these creatures as I am. My childhood shell obsession continues. Mollusks, like so many plants and animals on earth, have so much to offer humanity. We must continue to explore and protect the ocean and the delicate habitats these creatures live in.
