"E" isn't for easy

Key board missing the letter e

The letter "E" is the most common letter in the English language. And if my keyboard is any indication, it's true. Once again, I've typed off the letter E. This isn't the first time I've done this. I have a collection of keyboards all missing the letter E.

The missing letter doesn't stop me. When other people sit down at my keyboard they are put off by the missing letter. I'm talking about you, the two-finger typists. I'm an old-school typist. I learned to type way back in my sophomore year of high school on an IBM Selectric II. I type about a bazillion words a minute to boot.

Typing is easy. Editing is easy. Writing is hard. I'm now preparing the first fifty pages of my manuscript to send out to several lucky (ha!) literary agents. I'm excited, energetic, and edgy about the edits.

Actually, the edits are done. I'm back to the writing. The critiques I've been fortunate to receive have all pointed to the same series of small story flaws. Some are style issues that I won't budge on. But several, sigh, have been tapping like fingers on a keyboard at the back of my brain. I have to write my way to a solution. This means letting go of one idea and opening up to the possibilities of what if...? Maybe instead... . Easy to say, challenging to do.
